City PalaceConstructed by Maharana Udai Mirza Singh in the year 1559, City Palace is situated on the banks of Pichola Lake is considered to be the largest royal complex of Rajasthan for its awestruck architecture. This Palace served as the main seat of power,where the kingdom was administered from. A blend of Medieval, Mughal , European and Chinese architectural styles is very well depicted due to its construction by the successors who added a number of structures in it. A beautiful assortment of pavillions, terraces, hanging gardens, Mahals, couryards and everything about this palace is magnificently awe-inspiring be it the antiques, paintings. A triple-arched gate, Tripolia,adds to the intricate architecture of this regal building. Lake PicholaBuilt by Pichhu Banjara under the reign of Maharana Lakha, in 1362, Lake Pichola is a man-made lake flanked by hills, temples, magnificent palaces, heritage buildings and bathing Ghats.Later Maharana Udai Singh II was so awe-struck by its enxhanting sight that he enlarged it and also constructed a dam on the shores of the lake. Dawn at the lake boating offers a sight to behold when the pristine lake turns golden with sun’s reflection. Its tranquility brings out the romantic side of you and takes to a different world of beauty.
Lake PalaceLake Palace also known as Jag Niwas,situated on the island of Lake Pichola, was built by Maharana Jagat Singh II to serve as a royal summer palace in 1746. The palace was later converted to a luxury 5-star hotel in 1960 and now is a part of Taj Luxury Hotels and a famous wedding destination.
Jag MandirAlso known as the ‘Lake Garden Palace’, Jag Mandir is another island on Lake Pichola. Legent has it that when Shah Jehan took refuge here in younger days took insipration from this palace and built Taj Mahal. Jag Mandir was considered a symbol of friendship between Mughals and Rajputs.Its spacious courtyard and blck and white marble tiles give the palace a regal feeling.
Vintage Car MuseumA wonderland for all motor enthusiasts, Vintage Car Museum is a bliss. It was inaugrated in Feb 2000.It houses many famous vintage cars like 1934 Rolls Royace Phantom and many rare Rolls Royce models. It also offers a vintage car tour.
Bagore Ki HaveliThe construction to the building was first given by Amir Chand Badwa,chief minister at royal court of Mewar and later became the residence of Maharana Shakti Singh of Bagore in 1878 and thus was named Bagore ki Haveli. This splended building is situated in the waterfront of Lake Pichola and constitutes of more than 100 rooms in it. The haveli was later converted to a museum presenting the royal culture of Mewar in the form of jewellery, hand fans, copper vessels used by Rajputs.The Haveli hosts cultural events like puppet show, folk tales, light and sound show, musical and folk dance, theatre shows and more.
Saheliyon Ki BariMeaning the courtyard of maidens, is a grand garden built by Sangram Singh II as a surprise for his queen and her 48 maids who accompanied the princess to Udaipur as part of her dowry. It was designed by the king himself and has been created magnificently strived for the queen to relax with her 48 maidens.This serves as a beautiful tourist spot with fountains and kiosks, canopied walking lanes, lush green shrubbery, gorgeous lotus pool with marble pavilions, statues and flower beds.
Jagdish TempleBuilt by Maharana Jagat Singh I in 1651, Jagdish Temple, constructed in the indo- aryan styled architecture is a majestic temple in the city palace complex of Udaipur and is considered the most significant temple. Jagdish temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the creater and preserver of universe. The main shrine has a four armed statue of Lord Vishnu encircled by four smaller shrines of Lord Shiva, Ganesha, the sun god, and goddess shakti , the doorway to which is guarded by a brass sculpture of Garuda,the figure of half man and half eagle.
